For more information on the club, please visit www.wake-forest-womans-club.comAs World War II raged on, the 1940s was a tumultuous and sometimes dangerous time for many, but GFWC clubwomen tried to do what they could to help the world around them. In 1944, GFWC ran a “Buy a Bomber” campaign, during which state federations sold war bonds worth more than $154 million – enough to purchase 431 planes!A year later, GFWC was invited by U.S. Secretary of State Edward R. Stettinius to participate as a consultant to the U.S. delegation at the United Nations Conference on International Organizations, one of only five women’s organizations to receive the honor.
